“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
- Joshua 1:9
Courage is one of the most admirable traits out there, and it's highly sought after. I love courage just as much as the next gal, however, it hasn't always been one of my strongest suits. And quite honestly I don't think one could ever “arrive” when it comes to acquiring courage, but I do know that God supplies courage to those who seek him. Needless to say, courage isn't too difficult to receive, and as we venture into different seasons and face various trials; our courage will have to increase. But with God on our side, we're able to receive more courage when we need it.
Similar to attributes such as boldness, fearlessness, and bravery; courage is what enables us to face our fears and battle giants.
Remember the story of David and Goliath?
Can you imagine a boy in his youth killing a giant with a slingshot and a stone? I love how David faced Goliath without any hesitation or doubt. He was the smallest and had the least experience; however, he was the most courageous. The Israelite army didn't even have the guts that David had! Goes to show that a little courage can go a long way!
If anyone else had tried David’s method they would've failed because it was more than David’s weaponry, and big courage, that made him victorious! David also had a BIG God on his side. God blessed David's resources and equipped him for victory. When God is on our side, we're able to combat circumstances that appear to be stronger than we are. But at the end of it all, the tough circumstances will prove themselves to be trivial.
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head."
- 1 Samuel 17:45-46
David removed the head of his enemy after he defeated him, as evidence of his success. After every battle that we face we'll have evidence of our victory; in the forms of testimonies, lessons, and of course gratitude! So we should never tremble at the sight of giants because there is a celebration on the other side!
David's battle with Goliath repelled him into his destiny, imagine what would've happened if he had lacked courage, and didn't face the battle.
So...
What battles are set before you?
What giants are standing in your way?
Well, I'm glad to tell you that the size of your battle is irrelevant, and the height of the giants doesn't matter; because God is on your team! And he will give you courage that surpasses your trials!
When we make use of our weapon (God's word), we'll see God's provision in the battle; and his faithfulness in our victory. God does most of the work we just need courage, and we'll see the giants fall!
Ask God to give you the courage that you need to thrive in this life!
