I will trust you

Updated: Feb 10, 2020

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."

- Psalm 56:3 (ESV)

I've done a couple of challenging things in my life, like run track in the blazing Texas heat (Never again!), wake up for an 8 a.m class, and take an Instagram fast. But in all seriousness, the most challenging thing that I’ve ever done is trust God. Yeah, I said it, you probably weren't expecting that, but I gotta be honest with you. I love to be in control and fully manage all the little details in my life, so trusting God hasn't always been easy for me. It has often felt like a risk and has required me to fully let go. I’ve had to follow God without the slightest clue of where He was taking me, with full confidence that He would lead me to a greater place. And although trusting God is a lot of work, I remind myself that every single relationship requires complete and total trust, and my relationship with my maker isn't any different.

Trusting God can be just like doing a trust fall, intimidating and frightening. But God will never allow His children to hit the ground, He will always catch them. Even while they are in mid-air, He is eager to hold them in His safe arms. I believe that God wants nothing more than to hear His children say “I trust you”. Whether the storms of life are active, or things are going just fine, God wants us to trust Him. Joseph trusted God while he was in prison, Moses trusted God while he journeyed through the wilderness, and Paul trusted God as he was being persecuted. Therefore you and I have no reason not to trust God.

There are infinite reasons as to why God should be trusted, but here are just a few.

God I trust you because you're in control

After coming out of a season of unmet expectations, trusting God seemed to be the most impossible thing ever. I didn't know how I was supposed to get over the disappointment and hand my desires over to God at the same time. I had to repent and begin to intentionally surrender my all to Him. It wasn't easy but I had to change my ways, let go, and let God. Not just in some things but in all things. I couldn't understand why some plans in my life didn't work out, and why some events simply did not occur. But while questioning God, I found that it was best to surrender and worship Him, because although some of my questions weren't answered, I knew that I couldn't go on without putting all my hope in Jesus.

God I trust you because you will never fail me

I used to try and “Help” God. I was convinced that He needed me to intervene but all He really needed me to do was stand still and fully depend on Him. So I decided to relinquish all my fears, and stop being afraid that He would somehow fail or disappoint me. Truth is I was scared that if I fully trusted God; then He would turn my life into something that I didn't want. And I must admit that God has transformed my life in many ways, and many areas of my life are unrecognizable, but He has changed things for the better.

God I trust you because you're reliable

As I laid in bed worrying one day, I told God that I was afraid of fully trusting Him. He then spoke so clearly and said: “I'M NOT YOU”. God was simply reminding me that He wasn't a mere mortal, but that He was the one and only Lord God! Meanwhile, I'm a human that's prone to make mistakes and shouldn't even be trusted to lead my own life. However, God is perfect! He can’t do any harm. He is worthy to be trusted because. He is always good, on time, and present. Why wouldn't I trust Him? On my best days I'm still a sinner in need of grace, but every single day God is worth trusting.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding."

- Proverbs 3:5 (ESV)

God I trust you because you're always on time

I've learned that God doesn't do things according to my schedule, He has His own special timing. I’ve been upset, anxious, and even worried in the past because God wasn't doing things according to my timing. However, there was no need for my trust to waiver. Just because God wasn't working on my clock didn't mean that He wasn't working at all. I'm now happy that God doesn't do things according to my timing because He knows best. It's better to trust God and wait on Him than try to rush Him. Besides, good things always take time, right?!

God I trust you because you're strong

Sometimes it appears as if life is too tough and my issues are just too big for God to deal with. But there is nothing that God can't handle. I wasn't created to carry my own burdens and live in despair, yet, God can carry every single weight that I lay down at His feet.

God I trust you because you're faithful

Job wasn't a perfect man, however, He trusted God with all of His heart. Even when His great life took a turn for the worse, he remained faithful and continued to live for God. He didn't wait till his life was perfect, or until his circumstances were changed; because the love that He had for God was bigger than his love for wealth and comfort. The way that he trusted God was deeper than his desire for health and success. He didn't necessarily understand why God was allowing His life to become so difficult, but he knew to trust God even in the face of adversity. In the end, God restored Job and blessed Him with a double portion; Job didn't lack a single thing. You may not see the bigger picture, or where God is leading you. But you should trust Him regardless of what your situation looks like. Because in the end He makes all things beautiful and you will stand in awe and amazement of what He has done for you, grateful that you responded to Him with trust instead of doubt.

God I will trust you no matter what

Can I just tell you that God’s plans for your life are Astounding!

You don't need to worry about what's next or try to “help God '' by telling Him how to lead your life. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, regardless of what you may be going through He wants you to remain faithful and trust Him anyway. Even when all you have are tears in your eyes, and “Why God’s?” are clouding your thoughts. God will meet you right where you are, He will extend His hand to you and whisper to your heart ”Trust me”.

I’ve learned that It’s all or nothing with God. I can't just trust Him a little bit and hope for the best. I must trust Him with all of my heart, with full faith that He won't let me down. I know that in the end, God does work all things together for my good. The more that I place my trust in Him, the easier it is for Him to have His way without my interference. So although trusting God can feel very scary, mysterious, and hopeless at times. There is nothing better than landing safely in His arms and resting in His promises and plans for your life.

So fall back, let go, and trust God.
